Matcha Cookies Recipe

Soft, chewy, gooey matcha cookies with crisp edges. They contain brown butter, matcha green tea, and white chocolate chips. Matcha white chocolate cookies are a creative variation on chocolate chip cookies you'll adore!

-1 cup unsalted butter -2 cups all purpose flour -1 teaspoon baking soda -½ teaspoon salt -1-2 tbsp matcha powder -1 cup light brown sugar -¼ cup granulated sugar -1 lemon, zested -2 large eggs -1 tsp vanilla extract -1 cup white chocolate chips


Heat butter in a saucepan on low. Brown butter by frothing melting butter. Mix foaming liquid butter often. Butter smells nutty and fragrant.

The butter should have golden, faintly browned flecks at the bottom once the foam subsides. Cool brown butter in a heat-safe bowl for 10-15 minutes.

Stir flour, baking soda, salt, and matcha powder in a large bowl. In another large bowl, combine warm brown butter, light brown sugar,  Add eggs and vanilla, stir well.

Mix dry and wet components briefly. Use white chocolate chips. Place 2 teaspoons matcha cookie dough on a small baking sheet or big dish. Chill cookie dough balls for 60 minutes.

Oven to 350 F (177 C). Parchment two large baking sheets. Place 5-6 chilled matcha cookie dough balls 3 inches apart on the baking sheet. If desired, add white chocolate chips.

The chewy matcha cookies bake in 10-12 minutes. Remove cookies from oven to rack or stovetop.

 After 3 minutes, transfer the cookies to the cooling to room temperature and enjoy!
